Access to clean water and adequate sanitation impacts all facets of life. This week we talk with Danny, the CEO and Co-Founder of BLUE Missions Group to learn how they are working to provide safe drinking water for everyone.
BLUE Missions Group is based in Miami, Florida and working in the Dominican Republic to provide access to safe, clean drinking water. It is 2017, and many of us don’t even think about the fact that we have several faucets within our homes, nor do we worry about where we will take our next drink of water from. Yet, 663 million people worldwide do not have this luxury and struggle to access safe drinking water on a daily basis.
BLUE was founded in 2010, and won’t stop until everyone has access to safe drinking water. I loved getting to talk with Danny to hear his story and learn more about the BLUE model. He talked about why other water sanitation projects fail and how BLUE’s unique approach of engaging the community through the planning and execution phases ensures full community support and understanding of the problem and solution.
I also love that BLUE engages youth to help raise awareness of both global poverty but also challenges faced by families, children and individuals around the world. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip with my church, where we spent time in Reynosa, Mexico. We lived in a dormitory surrounded by families experiencing far greater poverty than I had ever been exposed to or even understood at the time. That trip truly helped shape my passion for outreach, learning and commitment to making a difference. Volunteers with BLUE are able to grow as individuals while making a tremendous difference in the community they volunteer in.
